Mt. Airy BID Approves 2012-13 Budget

See where the money is going in Mt. Airy.

The Mt. Airy Business Improvement District approved its 2012-2013 budget at its annual meeting Thursday.

The budget, which was approved unanimously by the board, forecasts over $158,000 in revenue against $150,000 in expenses for the fiscal year beginning October 1. This projection should allow the board to grow its current surplus of over $4,000 to approximately $13,500 at the end of 2013, according to board chair Ken Weinstein.

“This is a somewhat conservative budget,” he said. “This should allow for us to have even more of a surplus.”

Of the $150,000 in expected expenses, $14,850 of that money will be spent on programming, including holiday decorations and Labor Day planting. Street cleaning is expected to cost just over $6,000.

The $158,000 in revenue is expected to come from a combination of donations, grant money and funds from business owners.

Just to clarify.... 89% of next year's budget will be spent on programming and only 11% will be spent on administration. Most of the programming dollars will be spent on wages for the Mt. Airy BID's two hard working Ambassadors who clean and green Germantown Avenue and the side streets everyday.
