Moonlight Movies Schedule Released

Eight movies will be shown, as will the summer Olympics opening ceremony.

Mt. Airy USA's summer movies program will begin June 22 and continue through Aug. 17.

"Moonlight Movies in Mt. Airy" will feature eight movies (and one special telecast) throughout the season. Some of the movies in last year's inaugural session were rained out, but there's hope that won't happen this year. If there is rain this year, there's a backup plan—Cliveden has agreed to show the movies in its Carriage House in case of inclement weather.

They will be shown at the Lovett library branch lawn at 6945 Germantown Ave. If all goes well, the summer Olympics opening ceremony will be shown July 27 on the lawn instead of a film.

The movies will begin at 8:30 p.m., but there will be pop-up food vendors that will set up shop outside the films that will sell their wares. The vendors will range from Mt. Airy brick-and-mortar businesses to food trucks.

The movies were selected after an online survey was released. Here they are:

  • June 22: The Princess Bride
  • June 29: The Wizard of Oz
  • July 6: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
  • July 13: To Kill A Mockingbird
  • July 20: The Muppets
  • July 27: A feed from the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies (subject to technical abilities)
  • August 3: West Side Story
  • August 10: Up
  • August 17: Ghostbusters
