Man Has Been Exposing Self in Wissahickon

Police are monitoring the area to look for him.

A man has been exposing himself to people in the Wissahickon Park of late.

The man, who police said was in his late 20s to early 30s, was described by police as short with a muscular build.

The Friends of the Wissahickon said they have received multiple reports of the man exposing himself.

Resident Don Simon said he and his wife visited the Wissahickon recently, only to find a police officer near a Forbidden Drive bridge.

The officer, Simon said, was there responding to a 911 call from a woman in the park who encountered the man. The man also was not wearing a shirt at the time.

The Friends of the Wissahickon said the man has mostly been located in the Kitchens Lane and Monastery Stables areas.

I'm a woman who likes to hike to the stables. Why isn't there a better description on whether this man is black or white so that one can beware when one come across someone who fits the description BEFORE he decides to take his clothes off? Surely, if the police said he is in his late 20's to early 30's, and is short with a muscular build they could also mention his race is so we women can take precautionary measures.

I thought the same. How about race? Did he have long hair, short hair, facial hair, manscaped? That was a pretty generic and weak description.

I hear that. Generally, Patch doesn't identify a person's unless we have a more specific description of the man.

Thank you very much for that infor Laura. I want to be vigilant so I'm not caught off guard. I'm on guard anyway, but it helps to know descriptions of the predators out there.

A white man, mid 40s exposed himself to me, then followed me from another route so that he could expose himself again. This was also in the Mt. Airy area, this past summer. So it isn't really about knowing descriptions, sex offenders come from various races, it is more about being aware of your surroundings & following up with the authorities if you see anything amiss.

Rosanna, thank you for that point. As Zach mentioned, unless there's more information, why insert the race as a descriptor? Race is actually a pretty vague descriptor as well. If it said "Black" would you then be aware of every black man? Ditto for "white?" That is why Rosanna's comment is so important. It's really about being aware and reporting anything that needs to be reported.

Of course I agree, perverts come in all colors and sizes, but I'd like to know as much as possible about the description of the latest Pervert in the Park..
