Holy Cross Boys' Basketball Team Wins Regional Championship

The team advances to the state tournament.

The Holy Cross School boys' basketball team won its regional basketball championship and will move on to the state tournament.

The team won the Catholic Youth Organization Region 5 boys' basketball championship 35-25 against St. Raymond's at LaSalle College High School on Feb. 5.

The school's team has won that championship two out of the last three years. It initially won last year as well but was forced to forfeit after one of its players was deemed ineligible.

"The program has been very successful," said James Mosley Jr., a parent whose son has played for the team in the past and who remains involved with the squad. "The kids love it. They love to represent the school."

The team's program hadn't been running for some time before 2007. That year, though, basketball was revived at the school, and the program has enjoyed lots of success since.

Players are in sixth through eighth grades. The school also has track, volleyball, a girls' basketball team and a junior varsity boys' basketball team, according to Mosley.
