Green Tree School Set to Break Ground

The groundbreaking will happen Sept. 25.

The Green Tree School is set to break ground on its new campus near Awbury Arboretum.

The groundbreaking will happen Sept. 25.

The site is on Washington Lane between Ardleigh Street and Anderson Street (1196 E. Washington Lane). Its presence near the arboretum is one of the reasons Green Tree wants to set up shop there.

Green Tree currently has a campus at 146 W. Walnut Lane. It serves about 80 students with special needs from ages six to 21.

The school is now operating out of four or five buildings. Its plan is to build at 60,000 square foot facility at the site of the former Ivy Leaf elementary school.

An old house still stands on the property, but it will be demolished, and a two story building would be built there. That will accomodate the entirety of the school's programs.

It would house a gymnasium and a stage. Some outdoor space would be left to allow for green areas surrounding the school.

There would be two entrances to the school off of Washington Lane, according to project manager Robin Eglin. The exit would be controlled by a traffic light at Washington Lane and Anderson Street.
