Friends of the Wissahickon Plan Cleanup Days
Four cleanup days are scheduled for the fall.
The Friends of the Wissahickon is leading four volunteer work days in Wissahickon Valley Park throughout the fall. Most workdays are held on Saturdays at various locations in the park. No specific skills are needed. Volunteers need only bring their enthusiasm and interest, and FOW will provide leadership, tools, and instruction.
The following work days are:
Saturday, September 22, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Work on new trail construction at the Andorra Natural Area. Some of the heavily eroded trails at Andorra are being replaced with sustainable trails. Will also work on closing the old trails. Interested parties can meet at the Wissahickon Environmental Center.
Wednesday, September 26, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Help maintain a recently filled gully that runs from the Yellow Trail down to Forbidden Drive next to Valley Green Inn. Volunteers will place hay bales to help stabilize parts of the filled gully and will need to be comfortable working on a steep slope for this workday. Volunteers will meet in front of Valley Green Inn.
Saturday, October 6, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Plant native trees and shrubs in a recently filled gully. This work will help complete the restoration of this area.
Directions: Meet in the Kitchens Lane parking lot.
Saturday, October 13, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Plant native trees and shrubs in recently filled gullies. This work will help complete the restoration of this area. Meet in the Bluebell Hill parking lot.
