Fate of Philly School Bus Drivers Remains in Limbo
How will this affect things in the Northwest?
It's still unclear whether 2,700 School District of Philadelphia bus drivers and maintenance workers will be laid off soon.
That depends on whether the district can come to terms with a union that represents the employees, according to this CBS Philly article. If it can't, the employee layoff notices will go out July 15.
We don't quite know what that might mean for school district employees who drive students around or clean schools in the Northwest. AMY Northwest parents pushed for school bus service for their kids from Mt. Airy to Roxborough after the school moves across the Wissahickon next year, but the district said it would be too expensive and said students would need to use public transportation instead.
Contributor Virginia C. McGuire profiled the school district's transportation situation last year on Patch.
