Details Finalized for Meetinghouse Groundbreaking
Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting will break ground on the project May 15.
Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting will be breaking ground at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, at 20 E. Mermaid Lane, for a new meetinghouse that "will be a spiritual and artistic landmark open to all Philadelphians and area visitors", as it is described in a press release.
After fundraising efforts, grant applications and endowments, the meetinghouse will be breaking ground for the space on East Mermaid Lane. The project will include a Skyspace by world-renown light artist James Turrrell that will be open to the public year-round.
The new building will open in early 2013, according to the release.
The groundbreaking will be attended by Gary Steurer from the City of Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative, along with representatives from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Friends of the Wissahickon and Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting.
