Road work on Cresheim Valley Drive is scheduled to begin Monday, according to the city Streets Department.

Construction will take place over the course of the next six months or so, according to the city Streets Department. The road will be repaved during that time.

Single lane closures could take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The city said the work is essential.

"In 2004, Cresheim Valley Drive was damaged by major floods, and emergency repairs were made at that time," it said in a news release. "This project takes those repairs one step further to reduce the risk of washouts from future severe storms. The roads will also be resurfaced in this project to restore the riding surface, which has deteriorated with age."

The work will begin between Germantown Avenue and Cresheim Road.
