Route 1 south reopened Monday morning after a half-hour closure during rush hour, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.
A five-car accident shut down Route 1 south at the Ridge Avenue exit through I-76 from about 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, according the Philadelphia Police Department's Twitter feed.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m., right in the middle of rush hour, and blocked traffic onto the Schuylkill Expressway. Traffic cameras showed the road backed up from Roberts Avenue through the Ridge Avenue/Kelly Drive exit in East Falls.
Emergency vehicles were on site at the exit near City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, Lincoln Drive and Ridge Avenue.
Motorist traveling northbound were not impacted.
