Since Aug 28, there have been three break ins and several attempts to break into the apartments at Wayne and W. Johnson, "The Residences at Wood Norton". The property owner only came to the scene after the Sept.18 burglary. Residents, including two elderly men, and one young woman in her car, chased the burglar out of the property and onto the train tracks where he dropped his backpack and escaped. One resident was assaulted when the burglar pushed her down in his escape. The residents of the apartments made three 911 calls to the police who took 28 (twenty eight) minutes to arrive. They continued the chase but the man escaped. The burglar apparently had an accomplice in a blue van waiting in the parking lot but he took off when he realised the residents were aware of the burglar in the building. How many more times must the residents of Wood Norton be put at risk because of poor security and poor police response? The residents have organised themselves and are taking proactive measures to protect themselves but is it not incumbent upon owner to protect his property and the safety of the people who live there? Gates closing the property to trespassers would be effective. Should the police not realise that quick response to three calls from residents stating the burglar was still on the premises could lead to an arrest and possible solving other burglaries in the area? Does someone have to be killed or raped before a crime is serious enough for fast police response?
